Description

Biokinetics can provide expert engineering services related to vehicle occupant injuries for automobiles and rider injuries for motorcycles and bicycles. Our specialty is in the performance of protective systems such as airbags, seatbelts and protective headgear. Often failure of these systems to work properly results in unnecessary injuries, or conversely these systems may have done their jobs effectively and this needs to be demonstrated. We analyze injury causation and severity and can provide our expert opinion on the likelihood of a different outcome.

Biokinetics has extensive experience in assessing the effects of blunt trauma on the human body. We evaluate the performance of personal protective equipment (PPE) to standard and custom specifications for industry, government and regulatory agencies. Our technical support team can meet your exacting needs through test equipment design and fabrication, custom sensor application and injury analysis. We can assist with new product development, certification of existing products and in quality assurance programs.

Biokinetics has been a key player in transportation safety for over 30 years. Developments in automotive crashworthiness, harmonization of international automotive safety standards and automotive injury investigations have contributed to our core knowledge in this field. Our clients have included Transport Canada, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as well as major automotive safety research institutes.

For over 35 years, Biokinetics mission has been to protect the human body from blunt impact injury, ballistic threats and blast effects.

Biokinetics' expertise in impact biomechanics started when the company, founded in 1975 by James A. Newman ( see biography ), consulted on developing head protection standards for motorcyclists and on child safety issues for government bodies. The company soon became principal consultants to the Canadian federal government for developing vehicle occupant crash protection specifications and for developing aircrew head protection standards. These programs quickly distinguished the company as one of the foremost authorities in bodily injury prevention and analysis.
