All Friendship Centres were founded by volunteers, by Aboriginal and non Aboriginal people working together to provide needed services. The movement is rooted in volunteerism and despite the rapid growth which most Centres have experienced in the past twenty years, they are still highly dependent on volunteers to provide much needed services. Volunteers play a particularly vital role in the areas of cultural and recreational activities for children and youth which form an essential part of Friendship Centre programming.

Carla Bortoletto Director of Child and Family Services Carla was excited and honoured to join the Partnerships and Business Development team of the Association in 08/08/08. Her heart and her efforts are focused on bringing spirit, as well as family & community self-determination into Aboriginal healing & support processes. She has been working in child and family policy and Aboriginal health for over 15 years from within government and now within the BCAAFC. Carla adores her life partner, her role as step-mom to 3 amazing children, and being a mom to her new puppy Louie.

George Cook George is a member and former Chief of the Kwagiulth Nation, born and raised in Alert Bay. He has tremendous amounts of support and assistance from his wife Ruth, to whom he has been married for over fifty years now. George openly shares these experiences in order to ease the way for others and acknowledges his wife for giving him strength. George is a firm believer that his strong faith in the Creator has helped to carry him through troubled times and is an avid believer in the adage that when the Creator closes a door, he always opens another door.

The Canadian edition of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and recent works of literary giants such as Margaret Atwood are some of the best-known believers in Nicole Rycroft's strategy for stemming the rapid loss of ancient forest. Rycroft's nonprofit, Markets Initiative, has revolutionized the Canadian book-publishing industry by actively working with publishing companies such as Penguin Canada, Random House Canada and Doubleday Canada, to phase out their use of products derived from the ancient rainforest of British Columbia and endangered forests globally.

Rick Brant (Teho:ka) is Mohawk, a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario, and currently resides in the Cowichan Valley with his wife and two children. Rick has extensive experience in Aboriginal sport development. He is a founding member of the Aboriginal Sport Circle, Canada’s national body for Aboriginal sport and recreation, and is one of the primary architects of Canada’s Aboriginal sport system.
