Founded in 1928 by a group of Montreal-based businessmen, the Better Business Bureau of Montreal became the first Better Business Bureau office in Canada. Throughout the years, the Montreal Better Business Bureau has played a key role as an intermediary between consumers and commercial businesses. The main principle of the BBB continues to be to encourage auto-regulation within the marketplace.
