Description
Naturopathic Medicine provides the one-on-one care that is so often desired in today's modern health care system. As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Erika Buckley takes time with her patients to determine and treat the cause of disease, as opposed to merely treating symptoms. Using gentle and natural techniques, such as herbal medicine, nutrition, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and more, naturopathic medicine supports the body in the healing process and restores vitality. To become a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Erika spent a total of eight years in university, comprised of four years of undergraduate studies to obtain her B.Sc. in Biology, and then a further four years in specialized Naturopathic Medical training in Toronto. A special interest in hydrotherapy has inspired Dr. Erika to pursue continued training in this discipline. This includes the Advanced Hydrotherapy coursework offered by Dr. Letitia Watrous, a leader in the field from Washington State. Recently, her studies have taken her to Germany, where she took a one week intensive course in Kneipp Hydrotherapy. This interest has also motivated Dr. Erika to learn about this healing heritage first-hand by travelling to various places of "Water Cure," such as the site of the Kellogg Sanatorium in Battle Creek, Michigan, The Roman Baths in Bath, England and the home of Sebastien Kneipp, priest and father of modern hydrotherapy in Bad Worishöfen, Germany. Currently, Dr. Erika is in full-time family practice in Whitby and Port Perry, but also finds the time to teach Healthy Living Courses through The Durham District School Board and gives health talks at various churches and organizations in the community. Her goal is to reach as many people as possible with the knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention.
