Description

In 1985 a group of lumber manufacturers in Alberta expressed concern over the high rail transportation costs from Alberta mills to markets in the USA. With encouragement from the Alberta Government, a task force of lumber producers was formed to study what options were available to minimize transportation costs.The resulting report recommended the formation of a Forest Products Shippers Association who would negotiate freight rates on behalf of its members. It was to be a non-profit company owned and directed by the members it serves. In 1986 Alberta Forest Products Shippers Association {AFPSA} was incorporated under the Societies Act of Alberta.
