Description
Posted November 16, 2010 On November 1, 2010, thirteen students from the Women Interested in Successful Employment (WISE) "Career Planning Program" took part in our Hairstyling and Esthetics programs Client Day. What is WISE (Women Interested in Successful Employment)? For the last 20 years, the WISE program has helped women find their career path. Whether you are just starting out, changing direction, or going back to work after time as a family caregiver, WISE recognizes the challenges women face in balancing work and home. This program provides a safe, supportive setting where women can share their experiences, discover their talents, and explore employment opportunities. WISE has a volunteer governed board of directors. This board is a cross-functional team comprised of many talented women. The board also holds representation from WISE former participants, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Adult Education (NLAAE), and the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status for Women (PACSW). The WISE team contains women from multiple disciplines. They serve to mentor women as they risk change. The women within the WISE group stress self-care importance and keeping positive, supportive relationships alive as they plan and make their career plans. A great day for everyone! Esthetics Graduate, Michael Kane, Wins "L'Oreal Colour Trophy" Posted November 10, 2010 "L'Oreal Colour Trophy" is one of Canada's most prestigious hairstyling prizes. It celebrates a hairdresser's creativity and innovation worldwide. This event was held in Montreal with the event theme "1001 nights into the future." It showcased a magical time in the desert, featured visitors transported from another world and highlighted the "tribal" hair, color, and clothing beauty. Award winners are the "The Head Room Salon & Spa" team from St. John's, Newfoundland. Academy Canada's Esthetics program graduate, Michael Kane, was the make-up artist with this group. The winning team received an all-expense paid trip to Paris to take in an International Photo Shoot for the L'Oreal Professional Color Collections, the winning look on the Canadian Hairdresser Magazine cover, and an opportunity to be on the judging committee for next year's competition. Academy Canada congratulates Michael on his accomplishments so far as well as wish him future success. Former Esthetics Graduate, Michael Kane, and "The Head Room Salon & Spa" Team Two proudly accept the "L'Oreal Colour Trophy".
